Facing the conflict

Facing the conflict

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. — Deuteronomy 31:6

I once read the story of a military leader who was about to head into battle. The leader had spent much time in preparation. The troops that he led were well-trained, well-supplied, and ready. Among most of those going into the battle, his were the best prepared for victory.

The night before the battle, anxiety overcame the leader. Had he prepared his troops enough? Did they have enough supplies? Could they overcome the enemy? Time to leave for the battle was quickly approaching. What he realized was that he had spent all the time preparing everyone else, but he was not prepared himself!

Each of us will face conflicts in life. They can cause us to worry, fear, and have anxiety over them. We can worry if we are strong enough or spiritual enough to survive them. The truth is, it all comes down to our personal preparation. Have we prepared to face life’s conflicts?

In this verse, the children of Israel faced one of life’s conflicts. Moses would no longer lead them; it would be Joshua. They faced uncertainty. Yet, in those moments, Moses assured them they were prepared. Not because they had military might, training, supplies, or even the fanciest Bible. Instead, they were prepared because they trusted God, and He was with them.

When facing life’s conflicts, we can be confident if we have put our faith and trust in God. God sees both sides of the conflict. You never have to worry if you are unprepared or if you have enough to make it through. As this verse says, be strong, fear not, because God is with you!
