Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death. — Psalm 13:3
There have been many occasions in my life when I have been tired. Perhaps it was after a long day at work. Other times it may have been after doing a lot of yard work or things around our home. But there is a difference between being tired and being exhausted. I can remember just a few occasions when I was completely exhausted.
One such occasion was after one specific shift as a paramedic. I had agreed to work over my shift to help someone out. My 24-hour shift was one of the worst I ever had. The calls never stopped and it was tragedy after tragedy on this specific day. Finally, after around 30 hours of working with no sleep, my shift time was over.
As I drove home, I struggled to stay awake. I remember arriving home and taking a quick shower. Soon, I was in bed, and I did not wake up for what seemed like forever. My mind was exhausted from all the tragedy. My body was exhausted from all the stress and work. I was experiencing pure exhaustion.
Chances are you have experienced those times, too. Maybe it was after tragedy struck your home. Maybe a burden was weighing on you so heavily that it pressed you down to the point of exhaustion. Perhaps you felt like David here when he asked God to lighten his eyes or to lighten the load that was so heavy.
We are not exempt from moments of pure exhaustion in this life, but we serve a God who cares for us, loves us, and wants to help us through those times. He wants us to come to Him in those times, and He will help us! Are you exhausted today? Take it to God! He can help you through.
