By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. — Hebrews 13:15
From the time we are young, we often learn to say two simple words: thank you. If you are like me, you often remember many times when you were younger you perhaps didn’t want to say the words. A parent or someone you were with would gently remind you that saying thank you was appropriate. It was the right thing to do.
In our day, the words thank you are not said nearly often enough. There are many reasons for that I believe. First, we have a society that is more self-centered and focused than ever before. The idea of many is that they deserve things, not that they have been given things. But the Bible tells us clearly that we are blessed!
In all honesty, not a single one of us have received what we deserved. There is nothing in ourselves that deserves a loving God who blesses us. We don’t deserve grace. We don’t deserve mercy. But God still gives it because He loves us and cares for us.
The reminder in this verse of Hebrews is that because of Jesus, we have the ability to approach the throne of God in prayer. When we do, are we approaching with demand after demand, or do we give Him thanks for all the many blessings we receive? When was the last time you said thank you to God?
God wants us to talk to Him in prayer. He wants us to share our concerns, problems, challenges, and more. But today, take a moment to pray and say thank you. Thank Him for His goodness, mercy, and grace. Thank Him for giving you far better than you deserve.
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
