For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD. — Psalm 117:2
Have you ever met a person who is kind no matter what they are doing? Usually, we all remember those who are not nice to us. Those who mistreat us, talk down to us, or do some other type of harm to us, we can mention their names almost instantly. We have a list in our minds and know them.
But if you were to think of those who were kind in all things, you might have to think for a minute. There are definitely fewer of them. I have been blessed in my life to have met a few of these people. They have a unique perspective on life and bring about things in others out of kindness and compassion.
The psalmist here writes about the merciful kindness of God toward us. I love the word used “toward” here. In its original text, the definition is to be over, above, by, through, for, against, beyond, and more. In other words, from every direction, from every angle, and from every circumstance, God approaches us with love, mercy, and kindness!
God has given us the perfect example. God’s kindness toward us is evident in all aspects of our lives. Rather than giving us what we deserved, He loved us and gave us mercy. He showed compassion, and extended kindness. But do we do that with those around us? Are we showing kindness to others?
Our desire should be that we live the example God has put before us. Not compromising our faith, morals, or Christian values. Instead, we should live a life that shows mercy and kindness, even when it isn’t deserved. Because that is exactly what God did for us.
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
