Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. — Psalm 27:3
There are many times that I have talked with people at some of their lowest points in life. When working as a paramedic, I remember so many times that I responded to a call for someone who was contemplating some type of self-harm. In those moments, they felt as though everything was against them. It was as if they were surrounded, with no way out.
That is certainly what David seems to describe here in this verse. He described it as an enemy camped around him, with seemingly no way out. Then he goes on to describe it as a war planned against him, and the idea is that there seemed to be no way to survive.
There are many times in life we may feel as though everything is stacked against us. It may seem that our enemies are camped around us, just waiting for their moment to attack. Perhaps it seems like our life is in siege with no potential way to escape. Those can be some of the most trying times in life.
But there is a key in surviving these circumstances. David said that even in those moments, his heart did not fear. Even though it seemed there was little hope, he remained confident. How? In those dire situations, how did David believe he would survive and overcome?
David realized that the key to surviving those moments was not focusing on the things around you. The key was focusing on the God in control of it all! His eyes were not on the problem. Sure, he knew it was there. But he knew God was mightier than anything he may face.
Are you looking for the key to survival today? It certainly isn’t found in the things of this world. It is not found in becoming consumed with the situation. You can find the key to survival when you become consumed with God, where He is the only one you are focused on. Focus on Him today. Let Him help you!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
