Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people. — Psalm 65:7
Several years ago, my wife and I took a cruise. We have been on a few cruises over the many years we have been married, but this one was different. On this cruise, we ended up finding ourselves in the middle of a storm. I’ll never forget looking out one of the windows and seeing a water spout just a short distance from the ship.
But more than just the sights of the storm outside the window, we could feel the storm raging inside. The ship was rocking back and forth. You could barely walk down the hallways of the ship without falling. Even when you would try to lay down to sleep, it was difficult to stay in bed. The seas were violent, they were noisy, and it was tumultuous to say the least.
The seas were raging, the boat was rocking, but it never stopped our progress. In fact, the captain kept us on course, kept us moving along in a timely manner, and soon we reached our destination. While I may have not been comfortable, I had to keep trusting the captain.
There are so many times we find ourselves in storms in this life. We may find ourselves just like David in this Psalm. The seas of life may be raging due to the storm. It might be noisy, and those around us might be loud. But we have to trust the Captain!
God is the one that can speak peace in the middle of those storms, calming the raging seas. Even if He doesn’t calm the storm, He is the Captain. He will keep you on course, on time, and you are guaranteed to reach your destination. Maybe you find yourself in the middle of the storm, surrounded by raging seas today. Keep trusting the Captain!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide.
