Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. — Psalm 16:11
Have you ever made a bad decision? I certainly have. On many occasions, I have faced situations where I was forced to make a decision. While there may be the occasional life-and-death decision, most decisions give you the opportunity to evaluate them. Rather than taking time to evaluate the situation, I made a quick decision.
In those quick decisions, I often find I made a big mistake. Perhaps I didn’t take into account how the decision would affect others. Maybe I didn’t consider the long-term implications of the decision. Many times, I also find that I didn’t take the time to pray and wait for God to guide me in making the right decision.
It may not be that I didn’t pray over the decision. In fact, on many occasions, I have prayed and asked God to help me make these decisions. But then I often find that I don’t wait or listen to what God tells me to do. Have you ever found yourself there? If we are honest, we probably all have.
The path to joy in life is not found in making decisions apart from God. Sure, these decisions may lead to temporary happiness, but it quickly subsides. When we follow God’s guidance in life, it leads us to walk in His presence and experience fullness of joy, as David describes.
As you face decisions in life, focus on trusting and waiting on God. Follow His path in life. In His path is where you can find joy. Any joy outside the path of God is temporary. But the path to real joy is found in following God and submitting to His will and His way.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
