Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. — Matthew 26:25
We can all look back on our lives and look at opportunities that we have missed. For example, I remember when I was younger and how much I loved to play sports. There was rarely a moment when I was not playing baseball or basketball in some fashion at home or for some team near my house. As I got older, I had the opportunity to play for my school teams.
I remember one day, I met the coach for one of the high school teams. He spoke to me about how I was playing second base and how much he enjoyed watching me play. At the time, I wasn’t focused on playing baseball as much as I enjoyed playing basketball. Looking back, it was probably a missed opportunity to capitalize on playing baseball.
As we reflect on our lives and missed opportunities, there is one that we never want to have. We see this in the example of Judas. He had one of the best opportunities to serve God of anyone who has ever lived. He walked and talked with Jesus. For three years, Judas was by Jesus’ side every day.
But Judas missed the opportunity. He played the part but was never genuine. He had an opportunity to do great things, but instead, we see his life as a lost opportunity. If your life were examined, would it be considered a lost opportunity as well?
We aren’t saved by attending church, reading the Bible, having Christian friends and family, or doing things. We are only saved by repenting of our sins, believing in Jesus Christ, and giving our lives to Him. It’s a great reminder for us to examine our hearts and see where we are in our personal relationship before it is a lost opportunity.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
