He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. — Isaiah 40:11
While I spent many years as a paramedic, I am positive I could no longer do that same job. For example, I remember on many occasions lifting patients out of the floor to place on our stretcher. There were even many occasions where I would lift that stretcher and place it into the back of our ambulance. But now, there are times where I struggle to lift things.
That is not to say that I am unable to perform some of the same skills as a paramedic. While I have not practiced in some time, I could probably still do some of those things. But as I have gotten older, I’m far from as strong as I used to be.
Just as our physical strength with come and go in life, there are times that our spiritual and mental strength will as well. Life will often bring about moments of weakness. The Bible gives us many examples of this. In those times of weakness we will find ourselves needing help.
In those moments of weakness, I’m so thankful that we have God. He is our Shepherd! This verse of Isaiah is a reminder that as our Shepherd, God provides our basic needs, will carry us in times of weakness, and draw closely to us when we need comfort.
Perhaps you find yourself in one of those moments of weakness today. If not, that time will come again in life. In moments of weakness, trust the Shepherd. Trust the one who cares, loves, and provides. Let Him comfort you and give you strength.
