The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. — Lamentations 3:24
Many times in life, we find ourselves in a position where we have to make a choice. There are some simple choices, such as the color of the shirt you may wear. You may have ten different color shirts in your closet, but it’s not typically a life-altering decision about which color shirt you may choose for any specific day.
Other decisions have a lot more implications on your life. For example, where you choose to work. You are choosing to spend time there, so it should be somewhere you enjoy or perhaps in a field you are passionate about. Maybe it’s where you will attend college. Other decisions include dating, marriage, friendships, and many more.
In many of these instances, we are defining our life. We are making the active decision as to who will be included. Essentially, we are choosing who will be on our team. Day in and day out, we live with the decisions that we make as to who will be on our team and involved in our lives.
In this verse, the idea of the word portion is that the writer willingly chooses God. It’s the thought that everything given in my life is from God. There are many things that others may be trusting in, but not this writer. There was no reliance on anyone else. Full reliance on God, hoping and trusting in Him.
As you are making choices for your life, do you choose God? He provides all that we need, and all we have comes from Him. If we realize that, then it shouldn’t be a difficult choice for us to make. Instead of choosing all the other things in this world to trust in, our trust should be in God!
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
