For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. — 2 Corinthians 4:16
It is no joke that life changes tremendously as we get older. This could obviously be in reference to how we change. Our bodies start to fail as we get older. Our hair will start to turn colors, and perhaps we start to get medical conditions or other things. But that’s not exactly what I am talking about. Specifically, I’m talking about when our lives were carefree.
I remember the days when I was carefree. I only worried about my weekend plans with friends and how I was going to afford the things that I wanted. Now, I am much more concerned with making a house payment, keeping gas in the cars, and making sure my son has enough to eat. Priorities change, and so do the things that test us.
It seems the challenges become greater each day. The enemy looms larger over us. The sin and wickedness around us press in on our lives and our families. In fact, there are many times I can look back on circumstances in my life and ask myself how I made it through that day.
I think the key to that is at the end of this verse. Our bodies and our lives are temporary. We know that, eventually, we will all pass away. But our soul is renewed by God. We are reinvigorated by God to face each day by His mercy and grace.
As the days go by, the challenges will be difficult, and the circumstances may seem too difficult to overcome at times. But none of these are a challenge for our God. He has grace and mercy available. He renews our soul each day to face whatever may come our way.
Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
