For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. — 1 Corinthians 2:2
It was not so long ago that I sat and watched a documentary that was talking about some of the smartest people ever known. The show went back throughout history and spoke of people who were known to be extremely intelligent. The majority of those who were considered extremely intelligent knew a variety of information about many different things.
For example, one was mentioned as extremely intelligent because he was a master at engineering. Not only had he designed some of the most magnificent buildings, but he knew multiple languages. He had made countless dollars through investments, and much more. Because of that, he was considered one of the most intelligent people to have ever lived. It was interesting to hear what the show considered intelligent to be.
As they favored those who knew things about a wide variety of subjects, that may not necessarily be the most intelligent thing in life. There is absolutely nothing wrong with learning, but it seems that Paul shares here that there is one thing that is more important than anything else.
He said that he didn’t want to share anything among the people in Corinth, except Jesus Christ. He was resolved to not bring anything else up. In Paul’s mind, nothing else existed. Nothing else mattered. Just before this, he said that he didn’t come as an excellent speaker. He wasn’t there for show. He was there to talk about one thing.
The smartest decision anyone can make in life is to give their life to Jesus Christ. You can have all the knowledge the world has to offer, but it does not compare to Jesus. If you have accepted Him, take a moment today to thank Him for salvation and forgiveness of sin. If you have never accepted Jesus as Savior, today would be a great day to get to know Him personally.
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
