Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire. — Jeremiah 38:6
Growing up in the South, I was used to dirt roads. When I started driving, the area we lived in had many. I remember many times going down long dirt roads as shortcuts. There were many people that lived down those roads and I remember how those roads would become a muddy mess.
That’s exactly what happened one night as we traveled in the ambulance down a long dirt road. This one was several miles long. We went across many bumps, potholes, and passed many forks. But we finally made it to the house. There was just one problem, we ended up stuck in the mud!
I remember thinking to myself, here I am doing a good thing. We are helping people that need emergency medical care. Then, we ended up stuck in the mud. It took quite some time and a lot of work, but finally, we were able to get out of the mud and on our way.
There are many times that life leaves you stuck in the mud. Maybe not the actual physical mud, but you find yourself stuck in a bad place. Maybe you are doing the right thing, just like Jeremiah was here. Yet, no matter which way you turn, you end up stuck in the mud.
Just because you end up stuck in the mud, don’t stop doing what is right! As you study the story of Jeremiah here, you find that he was pulled out of the mud, but continued to do what got him in the mud in the first place. He never stopped or gave up.
Maybe you feel like you are stuck in the mud of life. That’s not a reason to stop or to give up. God still has a plan and purpose for you. Even though you may end up in the mud, continue to follow and serve God!
Across the world, there are Christians that need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. As a non-profit ministry, Another Well Ministries relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
