For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. — 2 Timothy 1:12
There are many times in my life I have had the experience where it seems nothing will go right. Maybe it’s a specific day where everything seems to go wrong. Or perhaps, it’s an entire week or month where the circumstances and situations continue to rage against me.
It can be so easy to become distracted by these things. As the storms continue to rage and as the trials rage on, the temptation comes to where we focus so much on the things that we face. Maybe you even feel as Paul described in Acts, where they were unable to see the sun or the stars for days!
If you have been around long enough, you have faced those times. You may even find yourself in the midst of one right now. It is in these times that the challenges seem greatest and the storms seem strongest that we can be tempted to simply give up.
But before you do, remember the words here of 2 Timothy 1:12. Paul was writing about the things that he was enduring in life when he made a stark contrast here in the King James Version with the word “nevertheless.” In essence, Paul is saying that when he considers the trials of life, they are nothing because of the one he has believed in!
Maybe the trial is intense, and the battle is great, but don’t give up. Remember the God in whom you have trusted. He is able to meet your need and bring you through, no matter what you are facing. Remember who you have believed in.
