O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. — Psalm 88:1-3
When I was a paramedic, I had many interesting emergency calls. While we often ran vehicle accidents and medical emergencies, there were times when the situation was different. I remember on many occasions when a patient would beg that we not let them die or cry aloud amid the turmoil that they were going through.
I remember one such occasion vividly. We went out for a potentially life-threatening injury. We knew the address well, and we had been there many times. We knew that the person at this house needed help, but they were never serious about help. This time things were different. The situation was dire.
As I entered the house, the person called me by my name. They started saying all the things that I was very familiar with. The person shared that they had an appointment the next day to address some of the concerns, but then they said, “I can’t wait one more day.” The circumstances became more than they could bear. It was keeping them up at night and disrupting them all day.
Life can lead us into situations where we simply can’t wait one more day. We have struggled all night, battled all day, and cannot seem to find rest for our soul. That seems to be where the psalmist was here, begging God to hear his cry.
Maybe you find yourself there today. Perhaps, you simply can’t wait one more day. I’m so glad that our God can and will hear our cries! He’s not asleep or finding enjoyment in letting us suffer. He is simply waiting for us to give it all to Him and trust Him. If you are not there today, chances are you will be at some point. Rejoice today that we serve a God who will be faithful when you need Him!
