But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. — Psalm 5:11
There are many times in our day when we have witnessed court cases that have captivated our attention. Sometimes they are local, national, or international, but there’s one specific thing that I have seen on several occasions. When a defense attorney successfully argues the case of their defendant, it typically leads to that person rejoicing when the verdict is read.
Sometimes they cry, sometimes they shout, and sometimes they simply collapse overwhelmed by emotion. They knew their side of the story and they needed someone to come to their defense and help them in their time of need. They put their trust in this specific defense attorney and for some of them it paid off.
Maybe you have found yourself in that same situation, but even if not, you have no doubt found yourself in need of someone to come to your defense. You have probably found yourself in a situation where you were overwhelmed by circumstances and situations. Maybe there were intense accusations and you seemed to have little way out.
David was in one of those situations, but he says that all of those who trust in God should rejoice. He goes further, saying they should shout for joy because God is their defense. Who is a better defender than God?! Who else could you want on your side?
While the situations we face in life may look dark and discouraging, do not let them steal your joy. Rejoice because you have God on your side. In fact, you can be joyful. God is your defender and He has never lost a case. No matter the outcome, you win if you have God!
