Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. – Psalm 103:1
Bless or praise the Lord is what the Psalmist says here in this verse. It’s not surprising that he says such, seeing as how we were created with the idea of praising God in mind. We were given so many useful tools to praise Him: hands, eyes, ears, feet, tongue, and so much more.
The Psalmist is not so much just saying casual praise here, but rather wholehearted praise. He says that he is praising God with all that is within him. Everything that he could contribute to praise he wants to use to praise God. It’s clear as you navigate the rest of the Psalm he has so much to praise God for.
He shares that God provides forgiveness, healing, redemptions, rewards, and satisfaction. He talks of the wonderful characteristics of God towards His children. He shares how he keeps his promises and protects his children. Considering all those things, it is no wonder that the Psalmist says bless the Lord with all that is within him.
Our God is a God that is worthy of our praise. Not just a simple statement of praise, but praise with all that is within us!
