But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. — Isaiah 64:8
We were at our house for a holiday meal and we had a lot of people all around. I was spending time with some of those who were there and I remember the words pretty clearly, “Where is Jared?” My wife needed me to be in the place she had asked me to be, but I wasn’t there. I thought I wasn’t needed in that spot and had left.
Now the situation at our house that day was not a life-changing one. I quickly got back into my place and life went on without any disruption, but the principle of the situation is an interesting one. We all have a place in life and many times people expect us to be in that place.
A lot of people spend a lot of their time trying to find their place in life. They struggle to find where they fit. Many spend countless hours trying to fit in and make themselves something they aren’t. They create themselves to be something they aren’t, instead of trusting God to guide them.
Isaiah reminds us here that we have a Heavenly Father and that He is the potter. He has a plan for each of us as He molds us and makes us what He wants us to be. It’s hard for us to fit into that plan for our lives if we are not in our place.
Instead of spending countless hours trying to fit into the ideas and plans of this world, we should spend our time focused on fitting into God’s plan and purpose for our lives. When we are in our place, giving God control, He can make something amazing out of our lives.
