But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. — Exodus 17:12
There was a big yellow sticker on the box. It showed two people lifting something and in big bold letters it said “team lift.” I guess I laughed in my mind thinking it would be simple to pick it up. After all, I felt like I was pretty strong. I was wrong.
As I attempted to lift the box, I quickly learned there was a reason the box said team lift. In fact, it could have possibly taken a team of three to lift the box as heavy as it was. I quickly learned that I needed help. Thankfully, it was before I injured myself.
It is amazing how God put all the things in life together. He gave us the ability to communicate with everyone and everyone is different. We have different ways of seeing things, different experiences, and different areas of expertise. There are times that we need others in order to make it through life.
Moses needed Aaron and Hur to keep his hands up. If they had failed to do their part then the battle would have been lost. There are times in each of our lives we need someone to help us as well. That help may come through a variety of things. Perhaps it’s just a few minutes of our time, perhaps it’s prayer, or perhaps it is our expertise.
God did not expect us to be here and walk through this life alone. He gave us the means to talk and interact with others. He also gave us the means to help others. Rather than being only focused on ourselves, we should also look at those around us for how we may be a help to them. Today, let’s ask God to help us see the places where we can help others along the journey of life.
