For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. – James 1:20
The world around us seems to be angry all the time, or at least the people that are in it. It seems that it takes the smallest thing to set someone into an angry rage. We see it play out on the highways, in homes, in stores, and even in restaurants when an honest mistake has been made. We can all think of examples where we witnessed anger or have experienced it in ourselves.
Scripture is filled with examples of the dangers of anger. Even in Genesis with the story of Cain and Abel, we see how anger is a dangerous thing. Anger has led to more murder and crime than probably anything else in history.
Anger destroys families, friendships, and a Christian witness. In just a brief moment, anger can cause irreparable damage. Here in the scripture in James, we see that anger does not work the righteousness of God. In other words, you cannot do God’s work in anger.
It’s important that as Christians we maintain our composure and stay away from anger if we have a desire to be about the work of God. If we struggle with anger, God is ready and able to help us!
