Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. — Psalm 6:2
It seems that often I hear people say statements like “my mind was playing tricks on me.” Others may say that things were challenging them mentally. Then there are others who may talk about the stress of life and how it has affected their ability to focus or continue.
Our mind is a difficult thing to understand and grasp. God created us with a great ability to think and reason about many things in life. Yet, we are still reliant upon Him for so many things. Many times, it creates a mental struggle, especially amid the difficult and challenging times of life.
That seems to be what David was referring to here in Psalm 6. In his statement, “O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed” David is saying that he is struggling with things in his mind. He is asking God to come and help him deal with the things that he is struggling with.
David was certainly someone that would have experienced mental anguish as well. Think about all the things that were part of David’s life. From his time as a shepherd, to his time facing Goliath, or even his time in other battles, he had a lot of experiences. Add to that, David had an affair, committed murder, and ran for his life on multiple occasions. I think we can all agree that these would no doubt leave you with a hurting mind.
No matter what the situation, there is help for a hurting mind. Just as David asked, we must ask the Lord for His help and healing. Later in this Psalm, David said he knew that the Lord had heard his request. God is ready and willing to hear and help. We just have to be willing to give it all to God.
