Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. — Leviticus 26:4
If you ask most people, they will tell you that they love to see the sunshine. They love to see the brightness of the sun and enjoy the feeling that being in the sun can bring. While we can often be in the sunshine for many days, there are days that the rain comes.
Rain is inevitable and it is needed. As the verse in Leviticus says, it’s needed to water the land and to bring forth food. It provides essential nutrients to the earth and brings water that provides life. It brings forth a period of growth. Without the rain, that growth would be minimal or not happen at all.
Perhaps you have seen the times where the rain has not fallen. You can watch the plants die and struggle to survive due to the lack of rain. While we may not enjoy the rainy days, without them we would not enjoy all the beautiful sights and enjoy the harvest of our wonderful world.
In our spiritual lives, we all want to experience sunny days. We want to experience the highs of life and enjoy the great smooth sailing. But the days of rain are inevitable even in our spiritual lives. We cannot remain on the top forever and there are times that we must face those rainy days.
It is in those times that God provides us nourishment to grow stronger in Him. He provides us with the things we need to grow our faith and become a stronger Christian. While the rainy days are not always the best times of our lives, sometimes we need the rain.
