For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. — 1 Thessalonians 4:7
We live in a world that is full of nothing but sin. Simply turn on the news and you will hear story after story about how rampant sin is in our society. From the top of the government down to main streets across our country, sin seems to run free.
In 1 Thessalonians, Paul was writing and had just shared many things that should be avoided. He specifically said that these Christians were not to live a life of uncleanness, or sin. He said that they were called to live a life of holiness.
It seems that a lot of people are scared about the term holiness. It is not that a Christian cannot enjoy life. It is simply that our lives are to be set apart to God, not to the pleasures of this world.
Holiness means that we live our lives dedicated to God. It means that we realize that we should live our lives set apart to God.
The reminder here in Thessalonians still rings true for Christians today. We live in a world that is filled with sin. Each day we are surrounded by sin and it is so easy to be pulled in. We must remember that we are called to live a life of holiness. God has called us to be different.
