And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. — Psalm 40:3
One thing I have always been fascinated with is music. While I have played some instruments in the past, the skill that many play with is simply fascinating. Not only that, but how someone can take those instruments, orchestrate them with words and create a song is an amazing skill.
In addition to just the way it is done, I am also fascinated when we continue to hear new songs being written. Musical instruments have been around for centuries, yet, we still have people that are creative and write new songs, compose new music, and it can be inspiring and touching.
Just as a new song can be fresh to our ears, so is the song that God can place in our heart. In this Psalm, David shares how God had put a new song in his mouth, one of praise. In the preceding verses, he shared the reasons he had a new song. God had done something amazing for him and the song was placed in his heart so that others may see what God had done and trust in the Lord.
How many times has God done something for us, given us something that we can share with others, but we are often silent? It seems that many times we are quick to share other things, such as gossip or bad news. Yet, when God does something that is worthy of praise, we seem to get quiet.
We should share the things that God has done for us with everyone around us. Let them hear the praise of God on our lips for His goodness, mercy, kindness, and compassion toward us. Just as a new song may catch our attention and focus for quite some time after we hear it, we should let the song of praise unto God for all He has done be on our lips so that others can hear.
