You Don’t Have to Know It All Right Now.

If you can’t see the next step, let’s take a breath before you take it.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

Some decisions are loud. A job. A move. A relationship. A diagnosis that changes what happens next. Other times it’s smaller and still just as heavy — you simply don’t know what to do next, about anything, and the not-knowing is exhausting on its own.

You’ve probably made a list. Weighed the options. Talked it through in your head more times than you’d like to admit. And you’re still stuck.

Here’s something easy to miss in this verse: it doesn’t say lean not unto thine own understanding because thinking is bad, or because you shouldn’t use good judgment. It says lean not — don’t put your full weight on it. Don’t make your own understanding the thing that has to hold everything up.

That’s different from having no plan. It’s admitting you were never meant to carry the whole decision by yourself, front to back, with nothing underneath it but your own reasoning.

Notice, too, what you’re actually promised here. Not a map of your whole life. Not clarity about the next ten years. He shall direct thy paths — one step, then the next. That’s usually how God leads: not by handing you the whole route, but by being trustworthy with the part right in front of you.

You don’t need to see three steps ahead today. You need to know who to trust with the step you’re on.

Take a slow breath.

Try it as a simple prayer: “Lord, I don’t know what to do. I’m asking You to direct my steps, even if I can’t see where they lead yet.”

You don’t have to have it figured out tonight. You just have to trust Him with the next step, and let Him direct the rest of the path.
