Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. — Psalm 62:1
The teams that I have led throughout my career will often look at me puzzled. While many leaders will be vocal in group settings, I often sit back and allow the team to work and interact without my involvement. It is not that I am unwilling or unable to step in. Rather, it is one of the ways I demonstrate trust. By remaining silent, I give space for growth, responsibility, and ownership.
Silence does not always mean disengagement. Sometimes it means confidence.
In our relationship with God, we often struggle with silence. We equate quiet with absence. When answers do not come quickly, or when circumstances remain unchanged, we can feel unsettled. Yet Psalm 62 speaks of a different kind of silence, a soul that waits upon God.
Waiting upon God is not passive resignation. It is active trust. It is the quiet posture of a heart that believes God is present and at work, even when He is not speaking in the way we expect. Silence becomes an expression of confidence in His timing and wisdom.
There are seasons when God allows us to wrestle, to think, to grow. His silence is not neglect. It may be an invitation to deeper trust. Just as I step back so my team can develop, God may allow space so that our faith matures.
The soul that waits learns patience. It learns dependence. It learns that salvation, deliverance, help, and strength ultimately come from God alone, not from immediate answers or visible change.
If you find yourself in a quiet moment of life today, do not assume God is distant. His silence may be shaping something within you. Waiting upon Him is not weakness. It is faith. Where might God be inviting you to trust Him in silence rather than demand immediate answers?
