Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. — Romans 12:21
Not long ago, my family and I were shopping in a store one evening when I saw someone approaching with a shirt that had words across it. Normally, pictures and things grab my attention, but I saw a word on this shirt that caught my attention. This shirt said, “abortion is healthcare.”
A lot of different thoughts went through my mind as I saw the woman who wore the shirt. My first thought went to my son, who wouldn’t be here had someone not chosen adoption versus abortion. My second thought went to the young child who was in the cart with her and her husband as they traveled around the store.
Then my final thought went to Romans 12 and the verses that end the chapter. This world is full of evil thoughts and deeds. But we are told we can overcome evil with good. That we should not let evil get the best of us.
It could be easy in our day to become upset with all the evil we see about us. They want Christians to remain silent in all aspects of life. We are not called to a life of submission, but a life of being a light for Christ and good.
Rather than letting evil compromise our principles or raise our tempers, we must continue to stand for good. We must live our lives to show that God is still God, still in control, and still loves to save sinners who are blinded by evil. We must be committed to overcoming evil with good!
