And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. — Luke 7:13
One of the most challenging times of life is when things stop going as planned. As I think about this passage of Scripture, we learn a few verses earlier about this city called Nain. In Hebrew, that name means green pastures or lovely.
But we find anything other than a lovely situation. Amid the green pastures is a widow woman who is on her way to bury her son. She had already lost her husband, now she lost her only son. In the middle of the “green pastures,” things stopped going according to plan.
Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there. Soon, we read in the verses that Jesus draws near to the woman and everything in her life changed. No longer was she mourning a lost son. Instead, she found herself amazed at the Savior!
Do you find yourself in a situation where things were going along well in your life, but suddenly things changed? Maybe it was the same as this woman, where you lost a spouse, a child, or someone else that you were close to. Or maybe it was something else that derailed your life.
While it may seem that things are hopeless now, keep your eyes on the Master. When the Master draws near, it changes everything. He has the ability to change your terrible situation and put you back in green pastures once again!
