But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. — Isaiah 43:1
A few weeks ago, I was sitting in a meeting and something interesting happened. They were calling on various people in the room to answer questions. As we went around the room, different people spoke up and answered what they were asked.
Then, someone spoke up and said, “Jared, what do you think?” As I started to answer, someone else started speaking. There were two people named Jared in the room! While we have different last names, we both shared the same first name.
In this verse of Isaiah, it speaks about how God called the children of Israel by name to be His people. They were His people and He was their God. But the verse is often used to relate to a personal relationship with God.
Could you imagine if this verse was written “I have redeemed you, and called you by name Jared.” How many people would believe this was written about them?! But I am glad that God doesn’t get confused. Even though there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who share the name Jared, He knows exactly who I am!
Not only does He know who I am, but He has redeemed me. I am His and He is mine! What an amazing Savior that we serve. If you know Him today, praise Him. If not, today is a great day to accept Him!
