And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. — Luke 9:23

There are many routines that we all have in life. If you were to ask me about my morning routine, there are a few things that would always be part of it. First, I always plan enough time to wake up each day. I never want to feel rushed in the morning. Next, there is always some form of caffeine involved. Maybe it’s coffee or tea, but I love something warm in the morning.

While those are common routines in the lives of many people, there are many other things that should be part of our daily routines. For example, family is important, and we should make time for them. There are friends who are important and we may need to make time for them.

Most important, however, is the time that we spend with God. In this verse, Luke shares the words of Jesus to let those who follow Him, deny themselves and daily take up the cross and follow Him. This wasn’t a cross of burden but rather a cross of service and duty.

It means that no matter what is going on around us, we are going to be committed each day to following Him. It is seen as part of our routine, a normal aspect of our service. Not a day should go by that we set aside our cross and fail to follow Jesus.

When you consider your daily routine, do you serve Him daily? Do you wake up every day, take on the cross of service to Jesus, and commit to Him? Just as with any other daily routine, our life should involve and revolve around Him!
