I couldn’t help but laugh as my son and I were walking down the street not long ago. We were in a larger town and he was taken in by the sights and sounds. Near the hotel where we were staying, someone had parked a rather new sports car that caught his attention.
He immediately pointed it out to me. I wouldn’t disagree with him that it was a very nice car. Someone had taken great care of the vehicle, as it was spotless inside and out. It looked to have all the latest technology that someone could put on the vehicle. I laughed when he said he needed a car like that one.
We can often be distracted by the things of this world. The big houses, shiny cars, fancy jewelry, or many other things. Sometimes, we often get distracted by things that our neighbors have. Perhaps we see someone in a position or circumstance that we think is better than ours and become envious.
The words of this verse are a great reminder that one of the biggest challenges we face in life is learning to be content. Rather than being caught up in wanting what everyone else has, our focus should be on being content with what God has given us.
No matter our situation, circumstance, or possessions, God has designed our lives for His purpose and plan. Instead of focusing on what is going on around us, our focus should be learning to be content with what we have and using it to serve God according to His will.
