And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. — 2 Samuel 11:17
It wasn’t long ago that I was watching a documentary about someone’s life. In the video, they were sharing about all the works that this person had done. They were accomplished in so many areas of life. This person had contributed in areas such as agriculture, government, technology, and many more.
As the show continued, it was clear the impact that they had on society during their life. What was interesting was the impact that they continued to have on society after their life was over. People continued to benefit from their contributions to society for many years to come. But after all that, the show shared one interesting fact at the end.
It said, “The most important thing to this person was their faith, and they lived for God until the end.” In other words, they were faithful until the very end. That is certainly the case here in this verse with Uriah. Even though he had every opportunity given to him, he remained faithful until the end.
If we examine our lives, what will others say about us? Will they talk about our contributions to society? Will they talk about our business success or career growth? Or perhaps they will comment about our social media following and funny videos that we made. But do those things really matter?
Instead, our desire should be that the most important thing they remember is that we were faithful until the end. Faithful to God, His cause, His mission, and following His will. While we should want to make an impact in the lives of others, our ultimate goal is that it all points back to God and what He has done for us!
