Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. — Deuteronomy 5:33
I recently heard the story of Mary, who was 101 years old. Mary realized that she was blessed, giving all the credit for her long life to God. She shared how she read her Bible every day, prayed, and attended church weekly. In her words, “It’s what the Lord wants” and “When He’s finished with me, I’ll go home.”
There are a lot of people interested in living longer. They seek all the opportunities in this world to live a long, healthy life. Doctors specialize in longevity now, sharing ways that people can focus on helping their physical bodies withstand decay and postpone death until the last possible moments.
While being healthy is important, the Bible is clear that how we live our lives will affect how long we live. In this verse, it is shared that God gave special blessings of life for those who lived for Him. Other verses talk about how honoring our fathers and mothers can increase our days.
If you consider the verses of scripture and the experiences of those like Mary, it becomes easier to see the secret to life. It isn’t just found in diets, medicines, and a healthy lifestyle. It is found in living for God!
How are you living your life? Do you spend time with God each day in prayer? Do you spend time reading His word and growing in Him? To be honest, the secret to life isn’t a secret at all. Life is is all about God and our lives should revolve around Him!
