That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. — Psalm 83:18
In my life, I have met some smart people. There are many who I had the luxury to work with in my career who were some of the smartest people this world has known in a variety of ways. Some were wise in regard to things like physics and science. Others were smart because they knew tasks and processes extremely well.
There have been many occasions when I needed to find a solution for something, and I could simply go into my memory of people that I have met or known and find someone who was smart in that area. They may have never won an award for their knowledge, but they were an expert. Knowledge is such an amazing thing.
In this Psalm, we are reminded about one of the most important things we can ever know in life. The Psalmist writes of the importance that men know that JEHOVAH is God. JEHOVAH is the ever-existing God. The one that always is and will be. Before we were, He was God. When we are no more, He will still be God!
It is more than just being God at the moment. He is God of every moment, of every thing, and of everyone. But the key word in this entire verse is the word “know.” It is not just a head knowledge that the writer describes. If you look at that word, it is the idea of having a personal experience and being completely convinced of something.
While you may “know” that God is God of all, is He really God of all in your life? Do you have that personal experience that has convinced you to submit your life fully to Him? That is more than just a knowledge of Him as God, but acknowledging He is God and submitting our lives to Him.
