Several years ago, I was talking with someone about life and they were sharing with me some of their challenges. They were dealing with temptations that were challenging to them. This person felt like no one cared and that there was no one around them who understood.
As we were talking, they started describing how they were trying to pray about this circumstance. They shared they were praying that God would simply take it away from them. Then, I could hear the frustration in their voice as they shared it had continued on. God had not taken it away as they hoped, and they were concerned they would just give in to the temptation.
While we talked, I was reminded of the words of Hebrews 4:15. We have a High Priest who knows exactly what we are facing. He was tempted, just like we are, but overcame those temptations. It was not that the temptations were removed from Him. Instead, He went through them and never sinned.
It is not always easy to overcome temptations, but we can. It is not that we have the power in ourselves, but it is through the one who lives in us! He knows exactly what we are going through, how the temptation affects us, and what we need to make it through. We must trust Him!
