When my wife and I purchased our first home, I never realized the amount of work that would go into owning a home. There were doors and walls to repair and painting that needed to be done. Soon, the air conditioner was broken and had to be replaced. Just when things seemed to calm down, something else would need work.
In our homes since that, nothing much has changed. No matter the age of the house, every time we move into one it seems there is an endless supply of work to be completed. In a conversation with a friend about this not long ago, I shared that it is as if the work is never finished!
That is not the case with our redemption, however. Jesus took all of our sin, the agony, the torment, and bore it all. He went to the cross and died the cruel death so that we might have life and forgiveness from sin. That is why three words here are so powerful, “it is finished.”
No more was there a need for sacrifice for sin. Jesus completed it once and for all. He conquered sin permanently. The only reason that anyone would ever have to face an eternity in Hell is through their own choice to reject Him as Savior.
Far too many people continue to believe that they need to do something in order to receive redemption and forgiveness. It is not in the work that we can do, it is in the completed work of Jesus! You don’t have to work for salvation; it is finished! If you have accepted Jesus as Savior, take comfort in knowing you don’t have to work for it. You just need to live for Him!
