O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. — Psalm 119:97

There are a lot of things that people do in life that do not make sense to me. For example, I have never understood the love that some people have for jumping out of airplanes. I have never had the desire to go skydiving, but there are many people in this world who absolutely love it. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

One person described it to me as the adrenaline rush. They shared that the adrenaline rush is so intense as they jump out of the plane. They enjoy the moments of time as they fall through the air. Another shared that they love seeing the world from that perspective. I loved the description that I heard from someone else, though. They said, “It’s hard to describe. As dangerous and crazy as it may seem, I just love it.”

The description of the love the psalmist has here in this verse is almost the same. It is almost as if the psalmist is astonished at his love. It’s almost like he’s saying, “It’s hard to describe, but I just love it and think about it all the time.”

Could the same be said for your love of God’s word? Are you so fascinated and consumed with your love of the word of God that you find it hard to describe? Do you find it consuming your thoughts all day because you love it so much?

That should be our desire. We should want God’s word to consume our hearts and minds so that we meditate on it all day. We should fall in love with it so deeply that the love of His word amazes us. But we will never get there without spending time in God’s word and with Him regularly.
