I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. — Psalm 142:4

Some time ago, I recall watching a television show where one character on the show was facing a conflict situation. Another character on the show was trying to provide encouragement. In an effort to encourage, this character said that the one with the conflict should confront the conflict directly. Then, a statement was made we have all probably heard: “I’ve got your back.”

As the conflict continued, the character decided to address the conflict directly. As they did, they looked around for the person who had their back, but they weren’t there. They had been deserted, left to deal with the situation alone and without help.

That is how life can feel a lot of times. Our lives can be going along with everything ok and we feel as those around us have our back. Then, when times get tough we look around and they are gone. That’s the situation that seems to be described here in this Psalm. When someone was needed, no one was there.

When we face these moments, we must remember the words of Hebrews 13:5. He promised that we will never be alone. God will never leave us or forsake us. He sent us the Holy Spirit to be with us so that we never have to face anything in life alone.

Satan would love to put doubt in your mind about God’s ability to take care of your situation. He wants you to believe that God doesn’t care and has left you to suffer. But God’s word is always true. He will never leave you  nor forsake you. He is always with you and always will be!
