Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? — 1 Corinthians 10:22

On one of the calls I ran as a paramedic years ago, I remember going out to the home of a husband and wife. There was a disagreement between the two, where it had become pretty violent. As we were at the home talking to the two, we began to try and figure out what happened with law enforcement. As best I can recall, the husband became frustrated with the wife over something and expressed his frustration.

In her response, the wife said that at that point, she decided she had enough. She knew exactly what she needed to do. She knew it would get under his skin, making the husband angry at her even more. Rather than trying to work on things to make them better, she opted to escalate them, starting a fight.

So often, we know how to get under the skin of those around us. We know what to say and how to act to make them upset, jealous, frustrated, and more. But if we take a moment, scripture teaches us that our God is a jealous God. Do we ever think about what we do and how it affects our relationship with God?

If you examined your life today, I wonder how it makes God feel. Is He jealous because you have placed other things in front of Him as the Corinthians had here? Or perhaps He is provoked to anger and frustration over our refusal to listen and follow Him.

How does God feel about your life? If we are honest, we no doubt all have the opportunity to improve. Today, as you reflect, take a moment to ask God to help you live a life that is pleasing to Him.

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
