And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. — Luke 23:22
Being a father is one of the most challenging experiences I have had in life. I love my son with all my heart. But like most kids, he doesn’t always like to listen. He will often ignore something that I say or questions that I ask the first few times that I ask them. My parents laugh and say it’s my payback because I did the same when I was younger.
There are many times when I must tell him things or ask him things multiple times before I get an answer. For example, if I want to know why he did something, many times he will just look at me. I see him thinking to come up with his excuse.
But if I’m trying to get him to give the correct answer, I will ask him multiple times. Many times, I know what the right answer is, but I’m giving him the chance. Pilate asked the people here 3 times about Jesus. He knew that Jesus should be released. He tried to give the people a chance to make the right decision.
Each of us is given the opportunity to make a decision about Jesus as well. Some of us make the decision to accept Him as Savior for the first time. But for others, it takes several times of Jesus speaking to our hearts before we would accept Him. But we find this was the last time that Pilate asked.
Eventually, if we continue to reject Jesus we will one day face our last opportunity. Perhaps you have rejected Jesus many times before. How many times will you reject Him before it’s too late? Today is a great day to accept Jesus as Savior.
If you have accepted Him, take a few moments to thank Him today. Did you accept Him the first time? Second? Perhaps the third? Thank Him for giving His life for you and forgiving you of your sins forever!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue its work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
