Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. — John 20:27
By nature, I’m not the most trusting person. I would certainly like to trust that most people have the best of intentions, but throughout my life I have had some interesting experiences. Like most people, I have been lied to, been cheated, and have been misled. Not everyone goes through life with the best of intentions.
I’ll never forget one instance where someone that I trusted misled me. We had worked together for quite some time. This person made a promise to me, but went back on that promise. I learned about it from someone else, and the situation destroyed the faith that I had in that person. When I thought I could trust them above all, I learned I couldn’t trust them at all.
We all have these types of experiences in life. We have someone that we are learning to trust, but they do something that causes us not to trust them. But more than just not trusting others, many times, we do not trust God either.
God has never once misled us, failed us, or lied to us. Yet, when we face circumstances in life, we don’t want to trust Him. So many times it is as if we want God to prove Himself before we will trust Him, like Thomas did here in this verse.
Do you trust God above all? It’s more than just saying you trust Him. It’s an action. It is believing and trusting in Him, no matter what He decides to do in our circumstances and situations. More than anyone or anything else in this life, we should trust God. He has never failed us, and never will!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
