All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. — Isaiah 53:6
Recently, I had a few minutes of time and decided to watch a few minutes of a documentary about a sports team from many years ago. The documentary was interviewing the players, trying to understand what had happened in the game. Coaches shared their decisions and thoughts. Each aspect of the game, from beginning to end, was being scrutinized.
I didn’t watch the entire show, but I did fast-forward to the end. I wanted to see what was said about the final few minutes. The entire game, as I recall, was a back-and-forth game. But in those final few minutes, key things would be decided that would determine the outcome. I wasn’t disappointed.
As the questions were asked, one of the players on the team that lost made an interesting statement. He described what he had done in this game, but then he said it was a horrible decision. He said that he realized his mistake, but it was too late. Then, he said that he has been forced to live with that decision for the rest of his life.
It is true that we live with our decisions for the rest of our lives. But we don’t have to live defeated in our past. Every one of us are sinners. We have all made bad choices and bad decisions. But we don’t have to be defeated in our past.
Jesus took all those sins. He bore them all! We might remember what we did in our past, but the Bible tells us that God no longer remembers them. Once we are forgiven through Jesus, those sins are gone. That past is no longer relevant to God!
Are you living defeated in the past? Maybe you cannot get over the things you used to do, or who you used to be. You don’t have to live defeated. Jesus saves, forgives, and through His work on the cross, your past is gone forever!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
