We love him, because he first loved us. — 1 John 4:19
As I sat in the room, I heard the words said behind me. “I love you” echoed through the room and it caught everyone’s attention. Turning around, I looked and saw a mother who was with her small child. It is not uncommon that a parent tells their child that they love them. But I watched as the story played out in front of me.
The child had climbed up her leg. They had been playing in the floor for several minutes. In fact, I saw the child playing in the floor, oblivious to everyone else in the room sometime earlier. But for some reason, the child decided to climb up her leg, into her lap, and give her a kiss and hug her. As I turned to look, I saw the biggest smile on the mother’s face.
No doubt she had told her child that she loved them many times, but the action of the child warmed her heart. It was a special moment. Amid all the chaos going on around them, the child expressed its love and I’m certain that it made her day.
We have all received the love of God expressed to us many times. Day in and day out, God shows us His love for us. Not only did He send His only Son to die for our sins, but He continually loves us each day. What an amazing Heavenly Father that loves us. But have we told Him how much we love Him lately?
We could never express our love for God in a way that comes close to what He deserves. He has been and continues to be far better to us all than we deserve. Today, take a moment to tell Him how much you love Him and thank Him for all His goodness.
