What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? — Romans 8:31
Many years ago, I used to love playing team sports. I loved to play anything where I could get outside and burn some energy. But in each of the sports that I played, I was part of a team. There were a group of us there, and the idea is that we would all be working toward a common goal: to win.
Unfortunately, as with any team sport, there were always times when people would get other ideas. Perhaps they would start focusing on themselves, more than the team. They were more interested in making a name for themselves, or receiving recognition. In the end, it led to those people essentially turning against the rest of the team. When that happens, it can be difficult to win!
Life is filled with moments when people are against us, especially for us as Christians. Our world continues to be filled with sin and wickedness. Others around us are more concerned with themselves than with living for God. It creates a situation where it can be difficult to continue on.
But this verse reminds us that we shouldn’t be discouraged by those around us who might be against us. God is on our side. They can attack us, stand against us, and attempt to destroy us. But in the end, their ability to win is already gone. God is on our side and has overcome anything they can bring!
What difficulties and challenges are you facing in this world? Do you feel like giving up? Feel like you cannot overcome? Don’t give up or give in. Take courage. God is on your side and with Him on your side, there’s nothing this world can do that will end up in your ultimate defeat!
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue its work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
