All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head… — Psalm 22:7

Have you ever felt like everyone around you was staring at you? I certainly have. There have been many times in my life when I felt as though I was the center of attention, and not in a good way. I will never forget one time I walked into an office and immediately felt out of place. It was clear this was a very influential place and I was far from up to their standards!

But there are other times that I have felt that way as well. Once, I was in an area and saw a store that looked interesting. As I got closer, I noticed that the store had ropes, only allowing certain people in. It was evident as I walked closer I was not going to be welcome in that store.

There are many other times in life when we may feel as though we are not good enough for those around us. Perhaps they would do as this Psalm shares, laughing at us. Maybe they open their lips and talk about us, saying things that are hurtful.

The truth is that there are times when people say and do hurtful things. And if the story ended there, it would be a sad one. But it’s not the end of the story. Because those around us who may say and do hurtful things do not have the ultimate say!

It can be difficult to ignore the things others may say and do. The ultimate say in all things is God. So when people say and do hurtful things, talk to God about it. Let Him know how you feel. He will comfort you and pull you close. Best of all, you can rest assured that He loves you, no matter what others might say or do!
