What are you letting in your house?

What are you letting in your house?
Share with others

Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas. — Matthew 26:3

Several years ago, long before the invention of doorbell cameras, I remember looking through a window to see who was at our house. You might hear a doorbell or a knock at the door, and you would peek out the window or a small hole in the door to see who was on the other side. You wanted to see if it seemed safe to open the door.

Nowadays, many people simply look at their phones and the cameras. But the idea is the same. You want to know that if you open the door for the person on the other side, it is safe. Most people would not invite others into their homes if they were up to no good or attempting to create trouble.

But that’s not the case with Caiaphas. He was the high priest in Jesus’ day. As we read the gospels, we find his name several times throughout. Each time, his name has a bad association. It’s because his palace is where the group gathered to plan the betrayal of Jesus.

He could have left them at the door. He could have said no. But instead, he invited the trouble in. They were allowed them to use his palace to plan the ultimate betrayal. Now, perhaps you aren’t planning the betrayal of Jesus, but what are you letting in your house?

Are you letting in the things of this world and those who would create and cause trouble? Or are you keeping the things of God in their place in your house? The world is filled with sin and wickedness. Rather than having our homes associated with the evils of this world, we should want people to feel the presence of God anytime they are in and around our homes.

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue its work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
