But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? — Matthew 26:8
There are many times in my life that I can remember comments made by Christians about Christians. Over the years, there have been a lot of different conversations. Some started with the leaders of their local church. They weren’t happy with how they dressed, talked, or acted. I even remember once I heard a Christian complain that one church leader didn’t comment on their new dress!
Other times, there were Christians who were talking about other Christians around them. Someone didn’t go to the right church. Another did not worship in the way it was thought they should have worshipped. I even recall once hearing comments about how someone did not believe that a fellow Christian was tithing enough money.
We see an interesting example of this even in Jesus day. The disciples saw someone worship Jesus with a princely box of ointment. Instead of admiring this means of worship, they decided the better choice was to talk about a fellow Christian and what they were doing. In the verses following, Jesus shared His point of view. He wasn’t upset with her at all. He knew her heart.
When Christians talk about other Christians, it is not doing anything to advance the cause of Christ. The Bible is clear that it is not our place to judge others. Instead, our purpose for being here is to lift others up. To help point them in the way of God and pray for each other.
If you examine your heart today, are you talking about other Christians or praying for them? Are you causing division among the Christian family or encouraging others to grow closer to God? Rather than talking about others, we should be talking about our God. We should be focused on sharing Jesus with the world and encouraging those around us to follow God, no matter how He may lead them.
Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
