Torn into pieces

Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. — Psalm 7:2

I once watched a documentary on lions. Lions are fascinating creatures, and I have often loved seeing them at places like the zoo. In this documentary, a camera crew followed lions in the wild. This was far from a controlled show. They were simply documenting how the lions behaved. What became very clear is that they are very skilled hunters.

As I watched the show, the crew caught footage of the lions surrounding another animal. It wasn’t just that one of the lions was out hunting. Instead, there was a group of them. They worked together, coordinating their attack. Once the prey did not suspect anything, they pounced. It is a big difference from those nice-looking animals at the zoo.

Sometime later, I read this verse in Psalm 7. David was no stranger to lions. In 1 Samuel, he shared how he saved a sheep from a lion. He knew what the lion was capable of. So, it was no mistake that he used the violent description of the enemy he faced. David was being torn apart on the inside from the circumstances of life.

Maybe you know what that feels like today. Perhaps you have faced circumstances that made you feel as though your life was being torn into pieces. Or maybe you feel that way today. Maybe the challenges and pressures of life have you feeling as though you are being ripped apart.

In this Psalm, David reminds us of several key things. First, his trust was in God. Second, his defense was God. And third, God was faithful and worthy of praise. Time and again, God has proven Himself faithful. You can trust in Him. But more than that, He provides defense for our lives from being ripped apart. You may feel as though you are being torn to shreds, but God is holding everything together in His hands.

So don’t give up or give in because you feel like you are being torn into pieces. God has you protected. So in the middle of the chaos of the situation, take a moment to just praise Him for His faithfulness. The battle may rage, but God ultimately wins!

Across the world, Christians need the encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue its work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
