When evil turns to good

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. — Genesis 50:20

The Bible is filled with countless examples of how people attempted to do evil to others, but it turned out for good. In this verse, we pick up the story of Joseph. His brothers had betrayed him, meaning it for evil. They thought Joseph would hate them now that their father was dead. They were worried, but Joseph knew the entire story. He knew it was for good.

In the New Testament, they tried to lock up Paul in prison for preaching the gospel. That didn’t stop the spread of the gospel as they hoped. Christians have been jailed, put to death, tortured, and punished throughout history in attempts to stop the cause of Christ. But those attempts have been unsuccessful. God turned that situation into good!

It seems that evil abounds in our world. Many of us can think back on the lives of many Christians affected by evil in our day. Maybe they were abused, mistreated, stricken by sickness, jailed, or found themselves in other situations. Perhaps it even happened to you.

But the bad situation and the evil of this world is not the story’s final chapter. Through the situations that arise in this life, God is working good. He uses the people in those situations and circumstances to prove He is faithful and still God!

Maybe you are in one of those situations yourself right now. Or maybe you know someone who is. Thankfully, that’s not the final chapter. God is doing something good through what is taking place. While we may not see the good while we are in the middle of the evil, we will see it in the end.

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
