And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. — Exodus 3:3

There is something fascinating about fire to me. Years ago, I remember spending time with some friends, and we would start a small fire in the backyard to roast marshmallows. There were times we would use wood in a small stove to help keep our house warm in the cold winters. I always enjoyed watching and learning about how to control the fire.

As I got older, I remember spending time at the local fire department. They would teach me about the behavior of fire. I always remember statements like “Where there is smoke, there is fire.” But I also learned that anywhere you have a fire present, you must respect it. It can quickly get out of hand and damage property, but it can also take your life.

I can only imagine Moses’s mindset here. He had just seen a burning bush, where the bush was on fire but was not consumed. He had no doubt seen fire, but this was new. The bush should have been consumed. But that fire was being fed, not by the bush, but by God!

We often say that a Christian has a fire burning in their heart. But one thing about a fire is that if it does not get fed, it will die. The fire needs wood and oxygen to continue burning. Similarly, our hearts need constant feeding from God to keep the fire burning.

How is your fire? Many Christians are starving their fire, not allowing God to feed them and use them. But God wants to keep the fire burning, and that should be our desire too. To keep the fire burning, we can’t feed it with the things of this world. We need to feed it with the things of God!

Across the world, there are Christians who need encouragement and strength that only God’s word can provide. We are focused on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger relationships with God, and help non-Christians come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Another Well Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on donations to continue our work. You can find out more about us and ways to support us here.
